Lincoln is more of a recreational cycling community that a commuter cycling community. Unfortunately, Lincoln was the site of two cycling deaths. Eugene Thornberg was fatally struck by a vehicle on Route 126 in June and Mark Himelfarb was killed in August on Virginia Road.
Lincoln has received a Complete Streets grant which will pay for a study to look at existing conditions of roadways and roadside and come up with an improvement plan.
The Complete Streets Funding Program, authorized by the 2014 Transportation Bond Bill, offers Massachusetts municipalities incentives to adopt policies and practices that provide safe and accessible options for all travel modes – walking, biking, transit and vehicles – for people of all ages and abilities.
Lincoln prides itself on being rural, which makes it beautiful for recreational cycling. But the roadways could use improvements to make them safer for all users.
