Ari Ofsevit found this section of new protected cycling infrastructure in Cambridge.
Mass Ave can be treacherous, with cars, trucks, bike and pedestrians all competing for limited space. This section in Central Square got a wall of ice and snow between the designated bike lane and the vehicle lanes. Crews clearing the street plowed the snow onto the flimsy flexi-markers, creating a snow wall. Add in a few freeze/thaw cycles and now there is a glacial barrier.
With a warm February weekend coming up, that barrier is going to quickly diminish in size. Maybe we will see better protection come the spring?
